Halfdan Ragnarsson

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search

Halfdan was one of the sons of Ragnar Lodbrok. It has been suggested that he is the same person as Ragnar's son Hvitserk[citation needed]. He pillaged with his brothers in England in 865, and later became a leader of the Great Heathen Army. He was the ruler of London 871–872 where he had coins made.

In 875, he conquered Northumbria where he became king. He was widely unpopular due to his alleged cruelty. He was expelled from York and died during a new Viking expedition in 877.
