Die Waldtundra ist der Übergang (Ökoton) vom borealen Nadelwald (Taiga) zur baumlosen Tundra.

Hauptsächlich wachsen in der Waldtundra Birken und Lärchen. Die Waldtundra befindet sich nördlich des Polarkreis bis etwa zu, 70. Breitengrad in Norwegen, Finnland, Schweden und Russland. Außerdem gibt es sie in Kanada und Alaska.

Im äußersten Südwesten von Grönland gibt es noch ein kleines Vorkommen, das sich durch den fortschreitenden Klimawandel indes stark vergrößert.
