Monopräparate sind im Gegensatz zu Kombinationspräparaten Arzneimittel, die nur einen pharmakologisch wirksamen Bestandteil (Arzneistoff) enthalten. Diese Definition bezieht sich auch auf Präparate, die ein Vitamin oder ein Spurenelement enthalten.[1]

Neben der wirksamen Substanz sind in der Regel weitere Bestandteile (pharmazeutische Hilfsstoffe) enthalten, die das Arzneimittel in eine verabreichbare Form (Darreichungsform) bringen.

Die Vorteile von Monopräparaten liegen darin, dass es nicht zu negativen Wechselwirkungen zwischen mehreren Wirkstoffen kommen kann.
