Die Kammuscheln (Pectinidae) sind eine Familie der Ordnung Pectinoida innerhalb der Muscheln (Bivalvia).
Kammmuschel mit Augen am Mantelrand
Die beiden Klappen des Gehäuses besitzen flügelförmige Fortsätze rechts und links des Wirbels. Sie besitzen nur einen großen Schließmuskel ("anisomyar") und demzufolge auch nur einen Schließmuskelabdruck.
Ein auffälliges Merkmal der Kammmuscheln sind ihre zahlreiche Augen am Mantelrand. Darum besitzen sie ein dementsprechend entwickeltes Nervensystem mit einer Konzentration der Ganglien im viszeralen Bereich.

Einige Arten haben eine große wirtschaftliche Bedeutung. Gegessen werden Schließmuskel und Gonaden der Muscheln (siehe auch unter Jakobsmuschel).
[Bearbeiten] Bedeutung in der Symbolik
Der Konzern Shell verwendet eine auf dem Kopf stehende stilisierte Kammmuschel als Firmenlogo. Auch in der Heraldik kommt die Kammmuschel vor. Die Jakobsmuschel ist das Pilgerzeichen schlechthin.
