Akzession ist der Beitritt eines Völkerrechtssubjekts, in der Regel eines Staates, zu einem bestehenden völkerrechtlichen Vertrag. Der beitretende Staat hinterlegt dabei eine Akzessionsurkunde. Die Akzession führt zum selben Ergebnis wie die Ratifikation beim Schluss eines Vertrages.
